District Governor Carol’s Message – January 2020
Roar Lions,
We have come to the end of another year. We, as Lions, are halfway through our year. Every year we grow smaller. How long before we are unable to be of service to our communities? I received this from PDG Ed Lantz as part of his membership report and I thought it might encourage each of us to go the extra degree to make our clubs, district and state better. I hope it does.
This is a great book, 212 The Extra Degree by Sam Parker. At 211 Degrees water is hot. At 212 degrees, it boils. And with boiling water, comes steam. And Steam can power a locomotive. Seemingly small things can make tremendous differences.
Just a small change in the way we act or react with our fellow Lions could make a big difference.
Just a small change in the way we approach friends and family members about being a Lion could make a big difference in our clubs.
Just a small increase in commitment could make a big difference in your club.
The average margin of victory for the last 25 years in all major Golf Tournaments was less than 3 strokes–Less than one stroke per day.
The average margin for victory for the past ten years in the Daytona 500 and Indy 500 has been 1.54 seconds. The prize money for second place was less than half the winners.
To get what we’ve never had, we must do what we’ve never done.
Success in anything has one fundamental aspect – effort. To achieve exponential results requires additional effort.
We need to offer 212-DEGREE SERVICE to our club and community
We need to have 212-DEGREE ATTITUDE
We need to offer 212-DEGREE LEADERSHIP
We need to offer 212-DEGREE KINDNESS
We need to have 212-DEGREE COMMITMENT
We need to have 212-DEGREE BELIEF IN OURSELVES
We need to have 212-DEGREE FOCUS
We need to have 212-DEGREE PERSEVERANCE
We need to take 212-DEGREE ACTIONS
We need to have 212-DEGREE REFLECTIONS
“It is one of the most beautiful compensations in life…we can never help another without helping ourselves.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Belief fuels enthusiasm, and enthusiasm explodes into passion. It fires our souls and lifts our spirits.
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t…you’re right.” Henry Ford
And then some…These 3 words are the secret to success. The spirit of service is summed up in these 3 words… AND THEN SOME
It’s time to turn up the heat in Lions. We can grow. We must grow to provide the increased service our communities need.
