For Special Events, there are a variety of opportunities to raise money.  Consider which are possible and appropriate for the event you are planning:

  • Admission or entry fee
  • Parking fee
  • Food concession sales
  • Event souvenir sales – shirts, hats, pins, etc.
  • Sponsorships – advertise in a program, on banners, signs, placemats, etc.
  • Solicitation for Donations

  • Auctions – Live or Silent Auctions as a stand alone event, or in conjunction with another event
  • Direct marketing company Party – Contact local representatives about proceeds to organizations – Pampered Chef (let us know about others)
  • Yard Sale/Rummage Sale
  • Fairs and Festivals – Fall Festival, 4th of July Event, Agricultural Fair, County Fair

Food Related

  • Beer Tasting
  • Breakfast with Santa
  • Brisket Dinners
  • Buffalo Burger Feed
  • Candy Making
  • Chili Cook-off
  • Christmas Cookie Party – have members each make several dozen of their favorite recipe, sell boxes where people to come assemble the variety of cookies they want for the holidays.
  • Christmas Dinner
  • Cider Making
  • Concession Booth (at other events listed) – Regular or unique foods (such as bratworst in a pita, funnel cake)
  • Dessert Auction
  • Fish Fry (Alternative:  Catfish Dinner)

  • Spaghetti Lunch – take pre-orders and deliver to local businesses (ongoing)
  • Tea Party – members sponsor a table by bringing china.  Have a meal, raffles, etc.

  • Animal Racing(not competition) 
    • Catfish Races (Greeneville, Wisconsin).  Alternative:  Include Catfish Dinner!
    • Mouse Racing
    • Turtle Derby (East Tennessee – contact this webmaster)
  • Barn Dance
  • Boat Cruise
  • Bus Trips – tourism, sporting, entertainment, shopping 
  • Circus – partner with a Circus company
  • Casino Night – admission, raffle some prizes, allow purchase of extra “funny money”, auction top prizes
  • Chinese New Year Dinner/Dance – including live and silent auction
  • Dance or Dinner Dance
  • Family Fun Night at School
  • Fashion Show
  • Feather Party – (Dublin OH)
  • Halloween Costume Dog Walk – sponsors get signs along dog walk area and on t-shirts
  • Haunted House
  • Ladies Night Out – Dinner and entertainment
  • Motorcycle Ride (Poker Run)
  • Rodeo
  • “Singing for Charities” Ball – sing 20 selected songs, then have dancing
  • Talent/Variety Show
  • White Cane Week – (in May) ask optometrists to set up information booths, promote Lions eye programs, perhaps arrange with local theatre to perform “The Miracle Worker”  (admission)

Competition

  • Sports  
    • Basketball Tournament – Alternative:  Pay $50 per child up to middle school age, includes t-shirt and playing in 6-8 games (Little Dribblers)
    • Bicycle Race
    • Bowling Tournament –regular/glow in the dark 
    • Demolition Derby

    • Golf Tournament – regular/glow in the dark 
    • Horseshoe Tournament
    • Running – 5K, 10K, half-marathon, marathon races
