District Governor Frank’s Message – May 2024
Time for Maintenance
A Lions Club is an organization. Like any other organization, it must be subject to yearly maintenance. For it to have maximum performance, certain guidelines must be followed for your club to be successful. Training is a big pet peeve in my District Governor’s handbook.
Training must start with the Global Leadership Chairperson. The GLT needs to have opportunities during the year to keep club officers as well as cabinet members educated in the most up to date material. This allows each officer the opportunity to understand their position in the club and contribute to its well-being.
Part of training Lions club members is knowing the Constitution and By-Laws. While some members may find it boring, as Lions Club members we need to know what we can do and cannot do. The Constitution and By-Laws are there to help us run our club effectively.
Entertain the opportunity to get on the Lions Club Portal. It should not matter if you like computers or not. The Lions Club Portal gives each Lions Club member the education available for each Club officer, cabinet officer, DGE and other related positions. There is even Lions Club University where you can take different course offerings.
Lions Club International has this available to you, the Lions Club Member. This costs nothing, but the result is a 100% learning experience.
The DGE, 1VDGE and 2VDGE continue their training by visiting Leader Dogs for The Blind. This is valuable since we talk about this at every meeting or convention. Then the DGE gets 1 week at the Q center in St Charles, IL as well as visiting Lions International Headquarters. Training with the MD-12 GLT at MD-12 meetings gets you going at the district level and helps you out with questions you may have.
Yes, it seems like training never stops. But we strive to be better Lions every day. WHY? Because WE SERVE.
Yours in Lionism,
DG Frank McCall
