District Governor Frank’s Message – March 2024
12N District Convention
If you did not go to the 68th annual District 12-N convention, then you missed out. But why come to a convention? Our numbers have been down in past years, so planning committees have tried to make it more interesting. We had a past international president of Lions International there.
His name is Doug Alexander. He is a past chairperson of the board for L.C.I.F. and a member of the Harlem Lions Club in New York. He explained to us how Lions International and L.C.I.F. had made a positive impact on his life and others in the community. Also, he got to join in on the celebration and assist us in giving out awards. It is not too often we get to listen to a past international president, so it was
worth the opportunity.
There were four different seminars available like we have at Lions Learning Retreat. This can be a definite advantage for you to take back to your Lions Club. Our clubs need help now and it is time to take a step in the right direction. Our seminars were on Diabetes, L.C.I.F. grants, L.C.I.F. and using social media to give better knowledge of Lions International to our communities.
We also had our district cabinet meeting and annual 12-N charities cabinet meeting. A respectable number of you may find the content boring. It is exactly the opposite. We as Lions should take an interest in our district. This is a terrific way to participate and get a better understanding of what is going on throughout the district.
The election of officers is always the highlight of the meeting. You have the right as a delegate to vote for next year’s cabinet. This election brought out some outstanding Lions. Elected for the 2024-2025 term were Keltie Kerney (District Governor elect), Nate Hughes (1VDG elect) and Wayne Garland (2VDG elect).
We concluded the evening with an outstanding meal with entertainment by a six-piece band playing traditional Mardi Gras music. Past International President Doug Alexander challenged all to be better Lions. I know I am not convincing, but I am asking you to try this experience. The camaraderie of Lions and networking of information can prove to be beneficial.
Yours in Lionism,
DG Frank McCall
