District Governor’s Message – December 2013/January 2014
Congratulations Are In Order!
A number of Lions and Lions Clubs are deserving of recognition and congratulations for their accomplishments. Here are some examples:
Hall of Fame – PDG John Sanders (1976-1977) from the Oak Ridge Lions Club was recently inducted into the Tennessee Lions Hall of Fame. A plaque with his name is now placed on a wall at the Tennessee Lions State Headquarters in Nashville.
Man of the Year – PDG Dave Crawford from the Farragut Lions Club was recently surprised and honored as the Powell Business and Professional Association Man of the Year for his dedication to working with the Lions Mobile Vision Van and Lions Vision Program.
Centennial Celebration Chair – PDG Wendy Cain of the Oak Ridge Lions Club was recently nominated and approved by the Tennessee Council of Governors to serve as Multiple District 12 Centennial Celebration Chairperson. The State Convention will be held in our district in 2017 and Wendy is already working on some big birthday party plans!
Habitat House Groundbreaking – Lion Dick Kolasheski of Tellico Village Lions Club organized a very successful ground- breaking ceremony for a Habitat House in London. This project is being sponsored by Loudon Lions Club, Lenoir City Lions Club and Tellico Village Lions Club. PDG Chuck Bailey of London Lions Club wrote a Lions Clubs International Foundation Grant Proposal for $20,000 to support this project and it was recently awarded.
Blue Star Award – The Jellico Area Lions Club has added four new members this year and was recently presented the Blue Star Award for Membership Growth. They also recently operated a successful Beans & Cornbread Fundraiser.
Green Star Awards – The Clinton Lions Club, Inskip Lions Club and South Knox Lions Club have all contributed $200 or more this year than past years to White Cane and have earned the Green Star Award for Charitable Donations.

Our District Convention will be held on Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22, at the Best Western Plus in Morristown. It will start on Friday afternoon with the opening of the Hospitality Room at 4 p.m. followed by Dinner, Special Entertainment and a Council of Governors Meeting.
On Saturday there will be an Opening Ceremony at 9 a.m., Charity Presentations, Toronto Convention/Election Presentation, Lunch Buffet, Special Entertainment, International Speaker, District Cabinet Meeting, Charities Board Meeting and District Election. The convention will conclude with an afternoon Reception for the Governor Elect at 4 p.m.
If you need a room for Friday night, call Best Western at 423-587-2400 (the Lions Rate is $96) or you can contact nearby (across the street) hotels – Super 8 at 423-318-8888 (Rate is $70) and Parkway Inn 423-581-9294 (Rate is $46).
