We are truly a blessed District. The outpouring of support from individuals and organizations locally and outside our District and state has been totally overwhelming. We have to realize this is not just our Smoky Mountains but one of our National Parks that the entire country cherishes.

District 12-N filed for and received an LCIF Emergency Grant for $10,000. Saturday, December 3rd, 19 Lions served 50 families and over 213 individuals affected by the wildfires with a $100 shopping spree at Walmart in Sevierville. They were allowed to purchase emergency items such as food, clothing, toiletries and medical supplies. We also handed out $25 Walgreens gift cards to help towards medications such as Aspirin and Tylenol that the emergency distribution centers are not allowed to provide. All families were very gracious and thankful. It was personally an emotional day with lots of stories and hugs. I wish to thank the Dandridge, ETSU, Farragut, Kingsport, Loudon, and West Knox volunteers who helped with this effort. I also wish to thank those who have already made contributions to aid with our efforts. If you wish to contribute please make checks payable to Lions District 12N Charities and write in the memo area “Gatlinburg Wildfire Relief”. Send to Lions District 12N Treasurer at 700 Sedgley Dr., Knoxville, TN 37922. Thanks also to 2nd VDG Brandon Johnson who has set up a gofundme account where we currently have several thousand dollars in donations. This account is www.gofundme.com/lions-clubs-help-gatlinburg.

During this Christmas Season we should be grateful for what we have and remember there are many individuals with great needs around us. Let’s please keep them all in our prayers and help where we can.

Our Service Card project is a tremendous success with almost ½ the clubs participating and sending or delivering cards to our military, veterans and first responder personnel.

I had a great month visiting several more clubs and I thank East Hawkins, Karns, Knoxville Tri-County, Morristown, Norris and Tellico village for their very gracious hospitality. I especially enjoy working projects with our members because that is really where we get to know each other and work together serving the needs of our communities.

Chuck and I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Yours in Lionism,

-DG Paulette
