Norris Day – July 4, 2016
MONDAY, JULY 4, 2016—Mark your calendars!
The Norris Lions Club invites you to the 48th annual Norris Day celebration in downtown Norris.
Running enthusiasts can begin the day with the Firecracker Road Run sponsored by the Norris Recreation Commission. They’ll be through in time to join the rest of us at 9 a.m. for posting the Colors. Later we’ll hold the children’s Dog Show on the Norris Commons followed by a one-mile Fun Run. The Liberty Pole demonstration at 11 a.m. will help us remember what our 4th of July celebration is all about. But there’s more fun to come with duck races, inflatables, and the water slide! No one will want to miss the children’s Many-Wheel Race, the Bicycle Parade, the Water Balloon Toss or the Water-Ball Battles. And, of course, this wouldn’t be an old fashion Norris Day without sack races.
Stop by the booths on the Norris Commons and on the grounds of the Norris Middle School where many of our community organizations will have displays. This is an excellent way to learn more about their activities and how they serve us.
The evening program will be held in the Norris Lions Community Pavilion, starting at 6:30 p.m. During this program, we’ll recognize one of our citizens, a woman who exemplifies the best tradition of serving others.
One of the highlights of Norris Day is the wonderful barbecue dinner–barbecue pork and chicken with all the sides served by the Norris Lions Club in the Norris Middle School cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tickets for the dinners will be on sale prior to July 4th on Saturday mornings in front of the Norris Post Office. You can also buy them at the Friday night concerts on the Commons, at Archers and from Norris Lions Club members. They’ll be on sale in the cafeteria on Norris Day, too. Proceeds from the ticket sales will fund many of the community projects supported by the Norris Lions Club each year.
Norris Day will conclude with the boom of a cannon and a fireworks display on the Norris Commons, an event funded by the Norris Fire Department, the Norris Recreation Commission, the Norris Lions Club, and contributions from local residents.
There’s just no better way to spend the 4th of July than Norris Day!
