District Governor Frank’s Message – October 2023
Don’t Give Up!
Coming out of a pandemic like Covid-19, some of our clubs did not do very well. Some survived and some dissolved. A lot of our clubs have a history dating back more than fifty years. When I take this in mind, two things come to mind.
Our Mission 1.5 that Lions International is supporting and a few words from a famous speech. “Don’t Give Up” was a famous saying by the late basketball coach Jimmy Valvano. It serves us well in this timely manner. We should make every effort to keep our clubs going and serving the public. But how?
We should first consider our Global Membership Team. We have excellent leadership in Jim McFarland and Ed Gibbons who work non-stop to support our District. Ed Lantz supports us at the State Level. These individuals have years of experience and are willing to steer people in a direction that gives their club the advantage. I will be the first one to admit, it is not easy asking for help.
Another idea is marketing. A good plan to help people notice the positive ways your club helps the community could prove essential. A brochure with information about your club with information and pictures says a lot.
Social media is another source that reaches out to a big number of people, but you must stay on top of your information. Be willing to answer questions or phone calls. It will take everybody in the club working as a team.
I am challenging every club to take these suggestions into consideration. As Lions, we should thrive on promoting our clubs, embracing lionism and serving our communities abroad. This will help everybody realize “Lions Are Inclusive, Lions Are Not Exclusive”. Join our club and hear our roar.
