The Lions are Coming!
It was a warm summer night as the fog was lifting over the harbor in Boston. You could hear the clippity-clop of the horse’s hooves as they went through the streets by the hotels. Faint chants could be heard from near and far, “The Lions are Coming, the Lions
are Coming.” Nahhh, I woke up and it was all a dream. What is going on? Why am I here? Oh, now I get it. It is the 105th Lions International Convention in Boston, MA. So, what did you miss?
Friday night was fun filled as Lions from all over went to the famous Fenway Park to watch the Red Sox play baseball and our international president, Brian Sheehan threw out the ceremonial pitch. Saturday was no different. The energy lit up the entire convention center as “Killer Queen” rocked out on all the classics of the band QUEEN. The remaining seminar of our incoming District Governor elects and District governor banquet gave us positive impact that our leaders are ready to serve as well as are effective in the community. The Parade of Lions went down the streets of Boston and showed a wide array of colors and nationalities as we demonstrated our diversity and commitment to the community and abroad. Everyone listened in a morning session to Tony Hawk, Jimmy Chin, and Eric Weihenmayer. Eric was the blind mountain climber that scaled over Mt. Everest. These men lead a dynamic discussion on overcoming challenges which was very meaningful. The Last day all incoming international cabinet, international president and district governors were sworn in. All the district governors from Tennessee tore off each other’s district governor elect ribbons. This is a welcoming tradition in supporting one another and preparing for a new year.
