District Governor Carol’s Message – October 2019
Roar Lions,
Roar Lions,
There are no words to express how much I have enjoyed visiting you. Each club is
unique and serves their community in their own special way. I have had the
pleasure of visiting 24 clubs. My goal is to visit all 43 clubs before December, and it
looks like I will almost reach that goal. I have one club scheduled for the Spring
and only four left to schedule. After all the clubs have been visited, I would like to
celebrate being a Lion with you, so let me know when you will be holding a celebration or activity, I might join you in. “Spoiler alert,” We expect to charter a campus club sometime in January. The Knox Vol club still needs their charter night.
As I have visited many of the clubs, I’ve noticed a problem with what I call “Ghost Lions”. These are members who joined our clubs but do not participate with our clubs. Just think how great it would be if most of our Lions could be counted on to participate in an activity.
When a new Lion joins our clubs, their sponsor should get them involved in club and district activities. Be sure our new members get to know their club members, attend the club meeting of a different club, attend a zone meeting, a district meeting and be sure they help with an activity. If the new member has a suggestion for a new project let them be the chairperson of a committee to try it.
Maybe some of our regular members are absent. Do they have a problem? Has anyone contacted them to see how they are? Sponsors, that’s your job too.
Remember, the only time we fail is when we do nothing. Let’s make sure our communities hear us ROAR!
By the way, our district is still at a minus seven in membership.
