District Governor Nathanael’s Message – November 2025
Gratitude and Thanksgiving
Lions, did you know that at the first Thanksgiving feast in 1621 a meal would have been made up of venison, duck, or goose, but not turkey? In 1863 Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday, which was the last Thursday of the month, until FDR moved it up a week in 1939 to extend the holiday shopping
season. This year it is estimated that over 46 million turkeys will be consumed on Thanksgiving Day!
As we move toward closing out the year 2025, I am filled with gratitude for another year of life and the opportunities I have
been blessed with. I am humbled to serve as your District Governor. I am wowed by your service to your communities, and I am thankful for experiences we will share together.
In Service, Nathanael Hughes, District Governor
