District Governor’s Message – October 2013
PID Bob Corlew for President in 2017
Tennessee Lions are proudly supporting Past International Director Bob Corlew as a candidate for Second Vice President of Lions Clubs International. PID Bob is from Milton, Tennessee. If elected to this position at the Toronto International Convention this coming July, Lion Corlew will be our International President when we have our Centennial Celebration at the Chicago International Convention in 2017.
A real honor for Tennessee!
Lion Corlew has served with distinction in a variety of positions at the club, zone, district and state levels. He served as International Director from 2011 to 2013. Lion Bob and his wife, Lion Dianne, were the guest speakers at our District Convention last year and both delivered powerful messages.
Together, Bob and Dianne will make a great team.
Lion Corlew has been endorsed by the Lions Club International Board. The election process, however, is open and Bob does have competition. A gentleman from Texas is running against Bob and appears to have a lot of financial backing and volunteer support from his state. It’s going to be a tough campaign.
This means we have work to do in Tennessee.
First, we need to support Bob financially. Funds are needed for Bob and Dianne to travel to all Lions Forums around the world to host a reception and to introduce themselves. While plans are not finalized, it is my understanding that a “Burger with Bob” event will be held in each District. For just $50 you can have a burger, fries and cole slaw and spend an evening with a future Lions International President and First Lady. Also, Tennessee Lions Cook Books are going to be published and sold for $20 and special pins are going to be produced and sold for different amounts ($100, $250, $500).
Second, we need delegates to vote for Bob and campaign volunteers to assist Bob at the Toronto Convention. Each club has one or more votes based on club size and these votes cannot be transferred to any other club. In other words, if no one from your club attends the Toronto International Convention, then your club will not be able to cast a vote for Bob. Campaign volunteers will be needed for a variety of jobs. The convention will be held from July 4 to July 8, 2014 in Toronto. Attendees must have a valid passport.
Each person will be responsible for booking rooms directly. A block of rooms at a special rate of $115 has been reserved at the Comfort Hotel Downtown Toronto, 15 Charles Street, Toronto. Call 416-924-1222 or e-mail GM.CN228@CHOICEHOTELS.COM for reservations. Specify: TENNESSEE LIONS.
Each person will be responsible for their travel arrangements. A large bus is now available for a cost of $150 per person that will leave from and return to Nashville. If this bus fills up, we will start filling a smaller bus for a cost of $200+ per person that will leave from and return to Knoxville. Individuals already on the Nashville bus will be able to switch to the Knoxville bus. We may also visit Niagara Falls on the way home! Contact Administrative Assistant Jayne Raparelli to make bus reservations. Call 423-871-1739 or e-mail jaynerap@aol.com
