District Governor’s Message – November 2013
There’s a lot happening!
A lot of great things are taking place in District 12N. Here are some examples:
Blue Star Award
The Farragut Lions Club has already inducted seven new members this year. They have met the Membership Growth Challenge and have earned the Blue Star Award. Let’s all get tough and get growing.
Green Star Award
The Campbell County Lions Club has already contributed $200 more than their average contribution for the past three years to White Cane. They have met the Charities Donation Challenge and have earned the Green Star Award. Let’s all get tough and contribute more.
Gold Star Award
The District Information Forum will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a free Chili Lunch at the Best Western near Morristown (Exit 8 off of Interstate 81). The morning session will cover Club Membership Growth and the afternoon session will cover Club Membership Orientation. Both are very important topics for all clubs. Clubs need to send two members to this event and to the District Convention to earn the Gold Star Award. Let’s all get tough and develop our leaders.
New ETSU Lions Club
A wonderful Charter Night Ceremony was held on Monday, Oct. 28, for the East Tennessee State University Lions Club. Thanks to Club Guiding Lion First Vice-District Governor Lion Ed Gibbons, Club Advisor Lion Michelle Byrd and Club President Lion Brandon Johnson for getting this club off to a good start. Let’s all help this new club.
Mobile Vision Van
The District Mobile Vision Van (Owned by the Smoky Mountain Lions Charities) successfully completed its first remote operation on Wednesday, Oct. 23, in Fountain City. Many people in need received a new pair of glasses paid for by the participating Lions Club for a cost of only $20 a pair. Special thanks to PDG Lion Jim McFarland and his Van Team members for all of their hard work. Let’s all try to utilize this van.
Vote for Bob Campaign
Past International Director Lion Bob Corlew and his wife, Lion Dianne, from Tennessee have been traveling and campaigning for the position of Second Vice-President of Lions Clubs International. He now has been endorsed by 29 states and 15 overseas multiple districts while his opponent has only been endorsed by two states – his home state of Texas and Arkansas. Things are looking good but there is still work to accomplish. We presently have 16 Lions representing 10 clubs from District 12N planning to help Bob in Toronto. We need more.
Let’s support Bob.
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR LIONISM.
District Governor Mike McDonough
