District Governor’s Message – April 2015
Message from DG Ed Gibbons
Lions of District 12N,
Is it me or has time really flown by this year? Here it is April 2015 and I have three more months as District Governor. Then, your District Governor Elect Fletcher Stephens will be in his seat as District Governor come July 1. It has been a great year visiting the Clubs in District 12N. Thank you Clubs for your hospitality during my visits.
By now, or during the month of April, you should have elected your Club officers for the coming year. Secretaries, please submit your list of officers to Lions Clubs International (PU101) so that names can be included in our District directory. It is very important for the new incoming District Governor to have an updated directory which shows your Club officers and meeting time and place. If you need help with this you can contact the District secretary Carolyn Broyles at lynn23508@gmail.com or call her at 423-525-7066.
April is Membership month. Now is the perfect time to grow your Club. Invite family and friends to one of your club meetings and showcase it to them. Organize a service project so your prospects can feel the satisfaction of service. Encourage other members to bring a prospective member to join. This is the month for your Club to get its Membership Growth Award by getting new members. Charter a new club to strengthen our District and stay on track for positive growth. We desperately need a few more clubs in District 12N. Your goal for me is to have your Club a positive membership growth (+1) by June 30.
International President Joe Preston has established the week of May 16-22 as the Worldwide Week of Service. LCI’s goal is to reach 100 million people in service projects by our Centennial. We have already helped 20 million in the first six months. He wants us to host a service project that benefits youth, vision, hunger or the environment. Plan your calendars for this week in May (16-22) and be sure to report it to LCI when you do.
Congratulations to Lion Brandon Johnson for being accepted to attend the Lions International Faculty Development Institute for Lions being held on May 31st-June 3rd. This is an intense four-day program designed to expand the current pool of qualified Lions instructors.. Lion Brandon has already been to many conventions in Alaska, West Virginia and just back from South Carolina. You make our District proud Lion Brandon.
Let’s try and finish strong in the remaining months of my term by ASK ONE, START ONE, and KEEP ONE. IT A WIN-WIN-WIN.
Thank you for what you do.
In Lionism,
DG Ed Gibbons
